Here's How to Get Your Seller's Permit and Other permits and Registrations You May Need. Seller's Permit, LLC, DBA, Licenses & Tax IDs Requirements:




First decide on a business structure Book Store as a Sole Proprietor, LLC/Corp, or Partnership.


Note that each structure requires a filing. E.g., selecting an LLC, requires at least an LLC certificate, an LLC operating agreement, a business license and a federal tax ID number.

All Book Store Businesses need a , Business tax registration also called an occupation business License

Selling/Leasing or if wanting to buy or sell Book Store merchandise, food, equipment requires a Seller's Permit.

All Book Store Businesses Using a DBA doing business as name need a DBA Fictitious Business Name

Hiring Book Store Workers Requires a Federal EIN and a State Tax Number EIN

Most stores sell merchandise so the first thing is to get a sellers permit to buy merchandise wholesale and sell it retail.

Aside from that, you then need to select your business structure: Sole Proprietor, Partnership, LLC or Corporation.  

The above step is important business all  Store  documents will be filed under the type of business organizational structure.

Of course, you can have a brick and mortar, road side, mobile or online store.  All of these require the same licensing not because of the type of location but because there  are all businesses.

After that, you will need to obtain a business permit.  

This is a general business permit that all new businesses must obtain.

More than 31% of the GNP, though, less than $5,000,000.00 is generated through retail sales business.

Though less than 2 million retail businesses, there is about 1.6 ml retail stores not including online retail.   Note that in the majority of the cases you do not need to obtain a business permit that is specifically for your type of business.

You only need a general business permit.  In addition, all businesses must be identified by a business tax ID called a federal tax ID number or Employer Identification Number (EIN).

If you file as a sole proprietor, you can use your social security number instead of the federal ID.

  Then, 99% of all stores require a sellers permit if you sell merchandise wholesale or retail.  The sellers permit is also called state ID, wholesale ID, resale ID, or re-seller license.  

If you are an employer, you will need a federal employer Number and a State Employer Number.

If you do business as a name other than your full legal name, for example, you do business as "ABC Discount Store," you will need to file a doing business as (DBA) filing.  

Finally, you have the option or incorporating or forming an LLC. Setting up as one of these corporate entities allows you not to file a DBA.

Even though you are a home business you still need all permits and tax ID numberss like any other businesss. Online business operated from home need to obtain a home occupation business permit and a fictitious business name if a DBA fictitious name is used to conduct businesss.     If you sell anything hazardous such as chemicals you will need a special location for the merchandise.   Sometimes the county will ask for an inspection if you manufacture or store anything hazardous.   Merchandise is stored at home business location so it it is an insignificant amount it is ok but a lot of merchandise may need a storage location for a home business permit to be issued: 2nd bedroom Make sure you do not have too many deliveries by truck to your home if this is a home business.

If your trade name is a business name other than your full personal legal name, you will need to file a   DBA  . For instance, your name is John Doe, and you do business as Best Widgets By John, the name must be registered with a   DBA Biz Name   because it is not your full legal name. Also, note that whatever item that you sell or lease and it is an item that can be touched (i.e., tangible such as equipment, toys, merchandise, electronics, prepared food) requires a state sales tax ID (  Sellers Permit  ) to either buy or sell the items or products wholesale and or sell them retail. If you are hiring workers anytime soon, you will need a   Federal EIN   and a   State EIN   (employer identification number). Other instances that you will need a federal tax ID are: if you are a partnership, an independent contractor, and a corporation or an   LLC  . You can also obtain a federal tax ID as a sole proprietor and use it as a business tax ID in the place of a social security number. However, you will still need other registrations, such as licenses, an assumed business name DBA, and tax IDs as described above. Finally, even one person, sole owner/proprietors working from home or just online can form a LLC or incorporate, in which case, they will not need to file a DBA.

No, the state of OR does not require it.Oregon has no statewide sales tax Sales tax permits — What are they and who needs one? - Avalara +2, making it one of only five states without this requirement. This means you typically won't need a traditional resale license or sales tax permit for state-level sales tax purposes.



However, you may still need other permits:

Other Oregon cities may have similar requirements for temporary vendors.
